Fiesta time in Mogan!

The Romeria de San Antonio el Chico

The annual fiesta of San Antonio de Padua, known also as San Antonio El Chico, with its the parade of the goats and decorated floats from the barrios of the locality through the streets of Pueblo Mogan is a spectacle well worth witnessing. Food and drink are handed out to bystanders, including cheese and milk from the goats.

The photos in the slideshow are from the 2004 Romeria. As you can see, most of the locals, (sometimes even including the local police!) wear traditional costume. The eating, drinking, live music and dancing in the streets goes on until the next morning, everybody, including the kids, partying andd having a great time.

Many of the floats have their own barbecues, and their own accompanying group of musicians and dancers, and after the parade you'll find small groups of musicians in the bars, on the street corners and just mingled with the crowds, all playing their own traditional songs, while in the park opposite the Town Hall is a concert of folk music and dancing.

The start of the fiesta is on the Saturday before the saint's day, so the date varies, so it's best to check when it actually is!

If you know of any events or sights to see on the Costa Mogan we could feature here, fill in the form and send us brief details of it - we'll see what we can do!
